ACCC Recognizes National Cancer Control Month

Aventura, FL - During this month long April recognition of National Cancer Control Month, Aventura Comprehensive Cancer Center and Aventura Hospital and Medical Center are planning multiple events to highlight attention to cancer control via research, community and physician education and quality patient care.
Exemplifying quality patient care during this recognition month, Aventura Hospital and Medical is pleased to name radiation oncology specialist Carlos Lopez, MD, physician of the quarter. Dr. Lopez earned his Medical Doctor degree from the New York University School of Medicine after graduating magna cum laude in Biological Sciences from the University of California, Irvine. He completed a General Surgery Internship at the University of Chicago and then completed his Radiation Oncology Residency at the University of Michigan where he was selected to serve as Chief Resident. Appointed Medical Director of the Cancer Center, Dr. Lopez in his over two years at Aventura, has consistently been praised by patients and staff for his professionalism, courtesy, and genuine dedication to the healthcare needs of every patient.

Continuing this month’s recognition of cancer control and in partnership with the City of Aventura, Dr. Lopez will be presenting to the public on Thursday, April 19 at the Community Lecture Series held at the Aventura Community Recreation Center. The topic is “Lung Health Awareness: Updates in Screening, Diagnosis and Treatment,” scheduled to start at noon. The community is invited to learn the latest in treatment and new advancements in cancer screening leading to earlier diagnosis and improved patient outcomes.
For the Aventura-affiliated physicians, the Cancer Center is hosting an Open House with a special Tumor Boards focusing on the clinical trials and cancer research in affiliation the Sarah Cannon Research Institute on April 25. Physicians will be able to learn about the greater access their patients may benefit from through this affiliation as SCRI is the industry leader in cancer research with more clinical trials than any other research institution. Medical oncology specialist Enrique Davila, MD will join Dr. Lopez in the physician presentation component to the program which promises to be very informative.
