3D and 2D Conformal Radiation Therapy

3D conformal radiation therapy uses computer technology to create a three-dimensional image of a tumor, so that radiation beams can be shaped exactly to the contour of the treatment area. This capability allows physicians to visualize tumors at the point of treatment to more precisely target tumors with radiation beams. This is especially useful when the tumor has an irregular shape, and more precise targeting of the tumor means that surrounding tissue will be spared to the greatest amount possible while still delivering the highest possible dose of radiation to the tumor.
